Hemming!

Billy took my car in to work today so he could change my oil. That of course meant there was no escape, lol. My mother-in-law graciously came over and Jocie got to go out with her Nana! I was excited because I got a few unexpected hours with my sewing machine. After making some headway on a Christmas gift, I decided to try out this hemming technique finally. I LOVE it! I can't imagine ever using another technique. It is so fast and easy. Take a look. Can you tell these jeans have been hemmed?

Baby gifts

I told Billy that I will likely never buy another baby shower gift! There are just too many fun, cute baby things to make! My cousin and his wife had a baby so I thought I'd try something new. I found a cute variation on the taggy blanket, adding a crinkle! What a fun idea! You can find the tutorial here. I think it turned out cute! I used both satin and grosgrain ribbons.



I also made several matching burp cloths. I actually am creating a tutorial to go along with this one, my first! Coming soon...

My sister-in-law has 2 little boys (22 and 2 months), after having her second she wanted a new boppy cover but has a hard time finding cute boy patterns, at least ones she doesn't already have. She asked if I'd be interested in trying my hand at making one. With some fear and trembling I sure sure, haha. I found a great guide on how to make a boppy cover, pattern and all! I will warn you that when you print it out it takes about 14 pieces of paper, so be sure it is something you want to do. It was pretty simple to follow. The one change I made was to use velcro rather than a zipper, because of that I had to re-cut a larger top piece for the zipper section so that there would be overlap. I also added the strap in the back to make the pillow stay up. I'm anxious to get it to my sister-in-law so she can see how it fits her boppy!

Wow, I'm nearly speechless. I've never been a big fan of hemming pants, it is just an annoying process and then there is always that obvious "oh, those pants are hemmed" look to them. I came across this tutorial on hemming jeans/pants and keeping the original hem. It is so simple! I have 2 pairs of jeans that are WAY too long and a pair of khakis for Billy that need hemmed too. Apparently I was just waiting to com across a genius idea!

sick sick

Man, this cold weather is killing me. Jocelyn and I both came down with colds at the beginning of the week and we are really dragging. The biggest thing I'm lacking is energy, which means no projects. )= Hopefully I'll return soon.

oh Christmas Tree

I LOVE the Christmas season. I've seen lots of Christmas-y crafts, but none that I just "had" to do. That is until Disney at Ruffles and Stuff posted this. I think I let out an audible gasp. Now THIS is something I "had" to do. Sure enough I tackled it the next day at nap time. Mine isn't nearly as cute, I just used what I had (dark purple felt, green cotton, and whatever felt scrap and ribbon I had lying around) and can only hope to someday have her creative talent. I didn't think I had any of the batting she used so I used some pillow "stuffing" and it is definitely more pillow like than hers. Wouldn't you know I found the batting I needed in the attic today, AFTER it was finished. haha Anyway, Jocie likes it! I plan on doing an advent type thing and give her a new ornament for it each day until Christmas. The ones I have done so far are at pictured at the bottom.

This was one of the first things I made after moving into our new house. I had seen this scarf on U create and had been dying to do something crafty. My cousin's birthday was coming up so I tried it one evening with a fuzzy cream colored knit I had tons of. I think it turned out pretty cute!
